UTM party spokesperson Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo has announced that he has resigned from both his position and the party.
According to a letter dated November 22, 2022, addressed to the party’s Secretary General Patricia Kaliati, Mwenifumbo is quoted saying that he already informed the party’s President Saulos Chilima about his decision to quit the party.
In the letter, Mwenifumbo says he called Chilima on October 13, 2022, to tender his resignation from party membership.
He added that the President accepted his resignation upon explanation the reasons for his stepping down.
Reads the letter: “I explained to the President my reasons for my resignation, and he graciously accepted it.
“In my own consideration delayed announcing the resignation on ethical and moral reasons due to the illness of the Second Lady.”
Mwenifumbo says he intends to live a private life and concentrate on his businesses.
He has however hinted that he does not intend to join any political party or participate in any political activity.
“I shall always be grateful and thankful to the President and the entire UTM Party for the support they gave me during my membership and service.
“I intend to live a private life and concentrate on my businesses and farming at the village. I also do not, at the moment, intend to join any political party or participate in any political activity,” wrote Mwenifumbo.
Mwenifumbo is the second UTM publicity secretary to resign after Joseph Chidanti Malunga who also left the Party in December 2020.
