This year again like many other years, the Central Malawi Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) had another big auspicious religious event at the Bingu National Stadium (BNS).
The event that was held from 3rd to 30th of September, 2017 under the theme: “Saturated 2017.”
The month long religious service with preacher, Evangelist Tony Yolamu was worth following, I remember to have followed several episodes of his teaching on radio in my single bedroomed house. I was not even surprised with news that came after that just like on the day of Pentecost, some souls were pricked in the hearts with the strong massage that was preached strongly to over 400 people who were baptized thereof.
Like its theme 2017 was saturated indeed, sin was spoken against and evil faced the tear while proclaiming the second coming of KING JESUS.
Tuning my two dry cell radio one evening to join those at BNS, I was taken by surprise when the little radio took me into the middle of the speech by the country’s Vice President (VP) Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima.
At least from where I stood on that Thursday evening I thought the frequency I had tuned into was not airing the rival meeting that day and my simple quick thinking concluded that the VP was doing official duties to which he was assigned to by the state president who was at the time in the United States of America (USA) for the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Wallowing in the sea of confusion I then heard the self-styled VP saying
“Beloved in the Lord, we need to show faith in our actions and deeds just as our Lord and master Jesus Christ king of the cross. I therefore urge you all to continue patronizing the meetings and give as much as you can.”
I was then gathered back and knew I wasn’t lost, it was Chilima who of late has become a church man, yes! In the recent past people have been debating heavily on his commitment and patronage of religious gatherings and not from his Catholic Church only, the spark was put out when he defended that before anything else, he was a church man.
I began to sink into the idea of what the VP was saying on that hot evening only to be left in an “UNSATURATED” speech from my right honorable VP, the speech ended like and I caught “Musadandaule kuti mwapemphera mu m’dima popeza kampeni tinapanga mum’dima.”(Do not get worried about the power blackout inside here as we also campaigned in the dark).
With this statement unsaturated that left me if not many in a gaze of what he was trying to communicate at a time Malawians are tired of persistent power outages.
What was he trying to mean? I still cannot find answers. The much I bother trying to grasp the meaning the more I remember the seemingly quiet Man as the boss of UNSATURATED statements. Lest we forget, this is the same Dr. Chilima who once at a political rally, told Malawians rallying behind the governing party that, “A Malawi Njoka Sitiweta” leaving Malawians searching for what he meant up to now. I find Chilima Unsaturated.
