Polygamy is impacting negatively on child support in the area of Traditional Authority Nsakambewa in Dowa district.
A child protection worker in the area Dorias Changa made the revelation in an interview with YONECO FM online.
Changa said children who come from polygamous families are not receiving adequate care from their parents as such they lack basic needs like food and clothing.
It is stipulated in the child protection care and justice act that parents shall not deprive a child of his or her welfare.
“Many children are suffering because of polygamy, it is unfortunate that children sleep on an empty stomach because of this.”
“The problem with this practice is that wives and children all depend on you.”
“A man provides more care to the children who live in the same house as him and the other children are left uncared for,” she said.
