President Peter Mutharika has called on Russian investors to consider investing in Malawi.
Mutharika made the call on Thursday at a Russia- Africa summit currently underway in Sochi, Russia.
In his remarks, Mutharika said Malawi is on the road to industrialization hence the need for more investors if the strategy is to prevail.
“Malawi is still on the road to industrialization, a strategy which has benefited many countries including Russia. Russian finance institutions are welcome to Malawi to finance national priority sectors which will benefit both countries,” he said.
The Malawi’s leader emphasized on the need for Russia to invest in the country’s agriculture and agro-processing, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), infrastructure, transport, tourism, mining, education and health sectors.
Mutharika further said that the country will continue to subscribe to peace and security to enhance sustainable development.
He again pledged to continue supporting regional as well as international conventions against terrorism, human trafficking, drug trafficking and cross boarder crimes.
The Russia- Africa summit is the first of its kind and it has brought together all African countries to discuss issues of peace, security and development.
