Over 200 families have been affected by flash floods in Chikwawa District following continuous rainfall in the country since Monday this week.
Confirming the Development to YFM, the District Commissioner for Chikwawa, Ali Phiri, said the council in collaboration with Department of Disaster Management Affairs – DODMA is currently moving the victims to safer lands.
“As we are speaking, the council together with DODMA , we are trying to rescue some people from Matsukambiya and Sekeni villages which have been heavily affected,” Phiri explained.
He further urged stakeholders and well-wishers to provide the victims with support like blankets, kitchen utensils as well as food
Reports indicate that some districts that have also been affected by floods include Zomba, Mulanje, Lilongwe and Blantyre.
