Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) says it working on paperwork to sue the acting Inspector General of Police Duncan Mwapasa over criminal negligence.

The development follows elapsing of 10 days that the organization gave Mwapasa to investigate and bring to book perpetrators of arson incident at UTM party office in Lilongwe which claimed three lives.

Speaking to YFM, Interim Executive Director for CDEDI, Sylvester Namiwa, said they are not surprised that the acting police chief has not responded to their demands since they serve a group of people and not Malawians.

“We have not received any response from Mwapasa even though they acknowledged receipt of our demands,” Namiwa explained.

He therefore disclosed that the organization will drag the police chief to court saying Malawians deserves professional law enforcers.

He went on to say that they will later communicate on the way forward as current CDEDI legal team is strategizing on the issue.

Meanwhile, no arrest has been made so far in relation to the torching down of UTM offices and other incidences of political violence.
