Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi has commended the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for providing a conducive environment to journalists since the polling day on June 23 in the fresh presidential election.

Speaking to YFM, MISA Malawi chairperson, Teresa Ndanga, said MEC has been forthcoming in providing necessary information and also entertaining questions from the journalists.

She further said so far the chapter has not received any complaint from either the journalists or any media houses on any misconduct from MEC.

Ndanga said: “So far it’s quite impressive that MEC has been forthcoming with information on the progress of electoral process on voting, vote counting and announcements or complaints from different stakeholders.”

She mentioned frequent press briefings being organized by MEC as a vital platform for the media to easily access information.

She further said MISA has not received any official complaints from stakeholders on any misrepresentation from the journalists or media houses.

However, Ndanga highlighted that MISA will come up with its official assessment report on the same after the whole process is concluded.

Meanwhile, MEC is yet to officially announce the winner of the fresh presidential election in which Tonse Alliance torch bearer, Lazarus Chakwera has taken the lead.
