The Chief Resident Magistrate Court in Lilongwe will male a ruling on Friday this week on the bail application by Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) Chief Executive Officer Collins Magalasi and two others.

Magalasi and Mera`s spokesperson Patrick Maulidi and Dorothy Shonga have since been charged with three counts of fraud, money laundering and entering into a procurement with an employee which is contrary to Public Procurement and Disposal Act.

The three, who appeared before the Chief Resident Magistrate Violate Chipawo, made a bail application through their lawyers.

Lawyer representing Magalasi told the court that his client should be granted on the basis that he is a senior government official and that he is not a flight risk.

The defense team also pleaded with the court to contemplate on the COVID-19 outbreak in the country as one of the considerations of granted bail the 3 accused.

But the State objected the bail application to the three saying that they are yet to complete with their investigations.

The State asked the court that three should be remanded at Maula Prison as they will be investigating the matter further.

The Court has since adjourned the matter to this coming Friday afternoon where it expected to deliver its determination on the bail application.

The three were arrested by police on Monday this week.
