Association of People with Albinism (APAM) has called for government to act fast in addressing attacks against persons living with albinism.

This follows an attack of a 39-year old woman with albinism, Dorothy Jefule, who was abducted on Friday night in Machinga district by unknown thugs.

Overstone Kondowe, national coordinator for APAM told YFM that they have been told that line minister for homeland and security Richard Chimwendo Banda have sent police officers to investigate the attack.

“The minister responsible for home land and security has communicated that police officers have been sent on ground to investigate and possibly apprehend those responsible for the attack,” he said.

Kondowe added that there are reports that some police officers failed to rescue the victim as a result of drunkenness.

“I have also been told that the commissioner for eastern region police has also sent people to find out about the allegations which were leveled against some police officers who were reported be drunk at the time of the attack which resulted to them not to respond accordingly to help the victim,” Kondowe said.
