The leadership of the governing Tonse Alliance has refuted allegations being advanced in the public domain that there are divisions within the alliance, mainly between leaders from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and UTM.
A press statement issued on Wednesday, September 9, signed by Reverend Maurice Munthali and Dr. Joseph Chidanti Malunga, who are Publicity Secretaries for MCP and UTM respectively, said contrary to the wishful thinking of the opposition parties, President Lazarus Chakwera and his vice, Saulosi Chilima remain united.
Reads part of the statement: “We wish to categorically refute a false narrative being advanced in the public domain by opposition politicians, insinuating that there are divisions within the Tonse Alliance.”
“Additionally, it is our principle and unanimous resolution as the leading partners of the Tonse Alliance to forge ahead as one in approaching and handling all development matters in the interest of and as a service to all Malawians, without regard to party affiliation.”
The statement further highlighted that the two parties are working together in “cleaning up the nauseating mess created and left by the past regime.”
MCP spokesperson, Rev. Maurice Munthali has also confirmed the statement to YFM online saying the rumour is laughable.
“What we are saying is that what the public has been awash with is quite contrary to what the truth on the ground and whatever people say they must know that what brought us together is stronger than what can divide us,” emphasized Munthali.
