Minister of Education Agnes NyaLonje says the 81.37% pass rate for the 2020 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations is the highest in previous five years.

The minister made the remarks when announcing the results of the PSLCE examinations which are indicating that out of 227,007 candidates who sat for the exams, 225,387 have passed.

About 84, 987 learners have been selected to public secondary schools.

Meanwhile an eminent education rights activist Dr Steve Sharra says there is need for more investment in the education sector to ensure that it is adequately accessible.

He made the call on the sidelines of the release of the 2020 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations results which have seen only 37.73 % of learners who passed the exams being selected to public secondary schools due to limited space.

“The issue of limited space in public secondary schools is historical, as such we need to look at some avenues of raising money so that we can eliminate this problem.”

Sharra has however described as a surprise the 81.37 % passing rate considering the circumstances that the exams were written including the emergence of Covid-19 pandemic.
