Eastern Region Police Women Network on Monday donated bags of maize and other assorted items to widows in Zomba.
In her remarks at Police College, the outgoing matron of the group, Eastern Region Police Commissioner Arlene Baluwa encouraged the widows not to despair during such trying moments.
“As women network your loss is our loss in the service, we are together with you hence we thought it wise to give you the little that we have.”
In her remarks chairperson for the Network Sub Inspector Mayamiko Nchenga encouraged the widows not to lose hope.
“As a network we are aware of the problems that arise when one loses a spouse, as fellow women we know you need support this is what prompted us today to render our support,” she said.
One of the widows Foloko Gama expressed her gratitude to the network for the timely donation which she said will help in solving some of the challenges they have been facing.
Some of the items donated were cooking oil and sugar.
Eastern Region Police Women Network is an organ of the National Police Women Network, a body that was officially launched in 2013 to look into the welfare of female police officers and to conduct charity activities like one in the mention.
