Government says plans for the country`s cities to have their own metropolitan police are at an advanced stage.
Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda has told YFM that the Ministry in collaboration with the Defence and Security Committee of Parliament have been working on the guiding laws and regulations.
“That project is on, soon you will see it happening what was delaying us a bit was some regulations we needed to relook at our laws we never had such laws but we are looking at our regulation.
“The team has been looking at that and they are about to conclude that, so we will be seeing that happening,” said Chimwendo Banda.
He added that the constituted team that was tasked to work on the introduction of the Service is currently making final touches.
“We needed some a bit of planning, how we constitute that under the Malawi Police main structure, that was what was remaining.
“But we are happy that we have made progress and we should be seeing that happening in near future, few days from now,” said Chimwendo Banda.
