The Ministry of Agriculture says it will make sure that the right pricing is set for farm produce to ensure that farmers are able to offload their harvest this season with the right profit.
Speaking to YFM Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe made the commitment while commenting on a concern that farmers could sell their crops cheaply as crop estimates indicate bumper harvests.
Lowe said his team is looking into production costs and other factors that should be considered when establishing a buying price which will help the ministry set up reasonable farmgate prices.
“We are trying to come up with farmgate prices and the team is looking out for farmers who produced commercially but we will come up with a price that will ensure the crop is bought,” said Lowe.
