Minister of Information Gospel Kazako says government is making strides aiming at transforming the country’s economy in accordance with demands for the digital age.

According to Kazako, there is urgent need for the country to seriously invest in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in order to cope up with unfolding change of events in the modern era.

“As a nation we always have to imagine, our imagination at the Ministry is that we will not be able to  be on lines, people will not be go out their home to pay water, electricity, buy things in the market.

And it’s already starting now people will be delivering door to door that’s a direction we have to do, and for us to achieve that we need to have a well capacitated ICT,” said Kazako.

The Information Minister said other countries have already shifted their direction in creating digital economy for their growth, and that Malawi cannot afford to be left behind.

“Many people have to be online, otherwise we will not grow that side if we continue to be an archaic economy, we need to modernise ourselves.

“Things are changing, this is now 2021 this is not 1962, and Malawi just have to do the right thing, so I think this thing it’s not something that gonna pass,” said Kazako.

According to Goal 9 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SAGs) member states are, by 2030, expected to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.

This will be achieved through, among other interventions, increased access of small-scale industrial and other enterprises, in particular in developing countries, to financial services, including affordable credit, and their integration into value chains and markets.
