The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services says Mwera winds are expected to be experienced over Lake Malawi with maximum speed of up to 50km an hour.
According to Director in the Department Jolamu Nkhokwe, the winds will cause waters to be rough over the lake and could be destructive to be both property and life.
“Mwera winds are expected to be experienced over Lake Malawi with maximum speed of up to 50km per hour causing waters to be rough and therefore could be destructive to property and life,” Nkhokwe.
He added that most areas over the southern and central parts of the country will experience cool to cold weather.
“Most areas over the south and center are expected to experience cool to cold weather, windy, partly cloudy and occasional sunny weather conditions associated with occurrence of fog and rain drizzles, particularly over high ground areas.
Due to the influx of cool and moist airflow from the south, induced by series of high pressure systems in the south Indian Ocean.
In additional, the Director said the month of April is the transition month from rainfall season into winter season associated with gradual reduction and complete cessation of rainfall activities.
Lake users have since warned to avoid using the lake whenever there are Mwera winds over the lake which can cause loss of lives and property over the lake.
