Maternal mortality rate is said to have gone higher in the past 10 months in most hospitals of the country.
The rise has been attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic which saw a decrease in number of women who patronized hospitals during theirĀ pregnancy.
Speaking to YFM Special Advisor to the President on safe motherhood Dorothy Ngoma said myths and misconceptions surrounding the pandemic made women to start delivering at home hence the rise.
“There has been a lot of misconceptions and negative information around this pandemic, that women shunned hospitals and choose to be safe delivering at home hence the rise of these death’s,” bemoaned Ngoma.
Commenting on the same, Acting District Nursing Officer Mercy Banda dismissed myths and misconception surrounding Covid-19 vaccine to women who are expecting saying women should not afraid.
Ngoma has called on media practitioners in the country to help and disseminate the right information so that lives of women can be saved.
