The Malawi Police Service, in a joint operation with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services (DICS), have arrested 29 foreigners for staying in the country illegally.
This has been disclosed in a police press statement seen by Yoneco online and has been confirmed by National Police Spokesperson, James Kadadzera,
The suspects have been arrested in an intelligence led operation conducted during the night of Sunday, May 23 in Chileka-Blantyre and Mchinji.
Kadadzera said the suspects are expected to be taken to court soon.
Out of the 21, 18 have been arrested in Chileka while 11 in Mchinji.
The statement has also highlighted that the exercise is not targeting refugees as they have a standing court injunction.
Meanwhile police have warned that the operation is an ongoing exercise.
Therefore all foreign nationals who intend to do business in the country have been advised to follow the due process with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services.
Three weeks ago 156 illegal immigrants were also arrested.
