Young people to take govt to task on 1 million jobs

A youth rights campaigner has stated that the Tonse government lacks a clear strategy on how it will create 1 million jobs for young people.

Speaking to YONECO FM online in the one year reign of the Tonse government the campaigner Chimwemwe Kaonga said this is frustrating and government should come out and address the issue of job creation at once.

“The government has failed young people on this aspect, young people had high hopes that government will solve their problems but what we have observed is that government is playing mind games,” he said.

But Kawonga said as a way forward young people will utilize the various structures such as the National youth network in order to petition government on the matter.

“As young people we will organize ourselves and hold the government accountable on the creation of jobs, we cannot be worried without taking action.

“We should be able to create platforms for engagement as the government claims it is operating on open door policy,” he said.

Kawonga further said it is surprising to note that nothing has materialized on the job centers which were highlighted in the first budget of the Tonse government .

Key among the campaign pledges concerning young people, the Tonse government said it will create 1 million jobs in its first year.
