The Ministry of Trade says the Buy Malawi Strategy which seeks to encourage consumption of locally produced goods and services, has registered significant progress since it’s introduction in 2016.
Public Relations Officer for the Ministry Mayeso Msokera disclosed this in Lilongwe during a two-day trade fair for local manufacturers which ended on July 3.
“We have seen that the goods the local manufactures are showcasing are of good quality, have value addition and we have also seen the increase in the number of manufacturers under Buy Malawi Strategy, so we organized this event to appreciate all that,” said Msokera.
Commenting on the development, one of Malawi’s leading manufacturers, Chombe Foods Limited commended the ministry’s decision saying trade fare events provide an opportunity for them to gain new customers from both within and outside the country.
“Events like this helps us to know where improvement is needed upon seeing the good work our competitors are doing while at the same time helping us to know how we can maintain the consistency if our products are of good quality than that of our competitors,” said Hendrex Msuse, Sales and Marketing Manager for Chombe Foods Limited.
