Minibus Owners Association of Malawi (MOAM) says it plans to meet government for possible changes on covid-19 restriction measures which among others stipulate that public vehicles should carry half their capacity starting Friday this week.

Speaking to YFM general secretary for the association Coxley Kamange described the restrictions as unfair saying it will lead to them making losses.

“We are dismayed with these ‘punitive’ regulations. We therefore want to engage government authorities on the matter to reach a win-win consensus,” he added.

During the previous waves, there was a disagreement between government and business operators on the same issue which forced the operators to suspend their services.

On whether the association has notified its members on the newly imposed regulation, Kamange said the association is currently working on the same.

Among other regulations include curfew from 10pm to 6am, mandatory wearing of masks and sitting capacity during religious gatherings has been reduced to 50% but numbers should not exceed 100 outdoors and 50 indoors.
