University of Malawi (Unima) law lecturer Bernadette Malunga has described the death of former Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo as a sad development in the history of the legal profession in the country.

Justice Munlo died on Thursday morning at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

Malunga told YFM Online that Munlo will forever be remembered in the Country for the tremendous work he did whilst alive.

“It’s a sad development not only to the Chief Justice family, but to the legal profession as a whole.

“He has contributed so much in this nation in terms of legal matters,” she said.

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera described Munlo as a man who shared values of patriotism and selflessly served his country.

“Malawi has lost a person whose life of service will forever be missed,” said Chakwera.

Former President Peter Mutharika described Munlo as a great man full of wisdom and integrity.

“Justice Dr. Lovemore Munlo served this nation with zeal, passion, patriotism and hardwork,” he said.

Munlo served in various positions in government such as Minister of Justice and Attorney General from 1993 to 1994 and Justice of the High Court of Malawi from 1990 to 1997.

He also served in various positions at international bodies.
