Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO) says the media is key in dealing with misinformation around Covid-19 vaccines in order to increase uptake.
YONECO Executive Director MacBain Mkandawire said the media has a lot of work to do especially in the rural areas where people are being fed, fake information around Covid-19 which is impacting negatively on Covid-19 vaccines uptake.
“The media needs to penetrate the rural areas and get peoples views on why they are not getting vaccinated against Covid-19 and enlighten them on the benefits of getting the jab,” he said.
According to Mkandawire, when people are not vaccinated this will result into lock downs and many sectors will be affected key among them are the economic and health sectors.
He made the remarks during an orientation session on how media can counter Covid-19 vaccine misinformation and disinformation using an investigative approach with funding from the International Media Support (IMS).
