The Qadria Muslim Association of Malawi (QMAM) says all is set for the Association to hold its elective conference slated for 10 to 12 December 2021.

Making the announcement during a news conference in Lilongwe, interim board of trustees’ chairperson Mabotolo Gwedeza said before the conference, the Association will first hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 26th September 2021.

“It’s an achievement, because we have taken a long time without having any elective conference, and I have to inform all members of Qadria and stakeholders that after having interim board of trustees’, they made some resolution.

And the first resolution was to have AGM this month and an elective conference in December this year.” He said.

According to Gwedeza, the elective conference is a milestone towards achieving the agenda of the Qadria Muslims across the country.

“You see normally if there is no elective conference normally there is like some differences in the organisation and if we can have this elective conference in December, I think we will not have any difference.

“So, I think QMAM will go forward and all the objective of the Association will be achieved without any problem,” said Gwedeza.

Apart from electing the Chairperson, the conference is also expected to elect director of religious studies and other positions.

QMAM was established in 1999 in Malawi and it has now taken about three years without an elective conference.

Qadria Muslims are different from the rest groups practising Islam in the country.
