Government is still in the process of identifying a new passport printing contractor following the termination of a contract with Techno Brain Global FZE, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services has disclosed.
The department’s National Public Relations Officer, Wellington Chiponde said so far progress has been registered in the process and that they are waiting for the involvement of various stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive analysis from all perspectives.
In December last, year government through the Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda terminated the K50 billion worth passport printing contract after it was discovered to be very expensive.
The development affected the production of passports in the country and until today, some Malawians are yet to have the passports due to the reduction of number of passports that the immigration is currently producing.
