Members of Parliament have passed a Bill which seeks to establish Malawi School of Government.

The school will be established through a merger of the Malawi Institute of Management (MIM) and Staff Development Institute (SDI).

Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo told YFM online that the two institutions have been selected based on their current mandate which is focused on development and delivery of various capacity building programmes for the public service and private sector.

He said: “The School will offer induction, refresher and promotional courses in addition to various management courses at diploma and degree levels.”

Mvalo added that merging the two schools will create a robust legal framework for operation of the School and delivery of high – quality long term and short – term courses.

“In this regard, the Bill provides for establishment of the School; the administrative and academic operation of the School; the teaching and learning structures of the School.

Creation of campuses of the School; and appointment and tenure of the Council of the School and members of the support, administrative and academic staff of the school,” Mvalo said.

Whilst on the same, the House has referred to its Committee on Legal Affairs a Protected Flag, Emblems and Names Amendment Bill for further scrutiny.

The Bill seeks to amend the Protected Flag, Emblems and Names Act in order to decriminalise sedition related offences.
