Authorities have bemoaned misuse and abuse of ambulances in the country’s public hospitals.
The displeasure follows increasing reports of ambulances being used for personal purposes.
But speaking with YFM online, Chairperson for the Parliamentary Committee on Health Matthews Ngwale said the tendency is uncalled for and needs to be tamed.
Said Ngwale: “Some ambulances have been lying idle at the district head office and some people are abusing those ambulances, they are using for personal use.
“But what we are demanding is that the ambulances should go back to the health facilities where they were, if they issue is fuel, let us look into that, maybe the community can decide how it will finance the fuel.”
He added that the ambulances that are at various district headquarters need to be returned to respective health facilities.
“We cannot take all the ambulances to the district headquarters, we cannot take ambulances as personal vehicles for individuals whoever they are, that has to stop,” Ngwale said.
