A call has gone out to people in the country to utilize the office of the ombudsman in public hospitals towards improving service delivery
Principal Secretary responsible for Administration in the Ministry of Health Beston Chisamile told Yoneco FM that all the country’s major hospitals have the office of the ombudsman designated for handling different complaints.
Said Chisamile: “Basically the role is to receive complaints that our clients or patients bring into those facilities and look at the areas of mitigating those complaints.
“So, it’s a process, we receive the complaints and investigate and get solutions.”
Chisamile has however stressed on the need to carry mass awareness on the services provided by the hospital ombudsman for people to be well aware.
“As a Ministry, we have to go back and do more on awareness so that when the clients or patients should know that when they get to these facilities.
“If they have issues to complain there is an office, and that office will handle their issues and have a conclusion on that in a way that will also improve service delivery,” he said.
Office of the Ombudsman and the Ministry of Health collaborated to establish a social accountability platform in June 2018.
This forum was aimed at ensuring the provision of quality services in all health facilities in line with existing democratic principles.
