Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Infrastructure has bemoaned the conduct of the office of the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) Director General which for the second time has dodged a meeting with the committee over a complaint regarding vehicle number plates by some concerned players.
The committee’s chairperson, Enoch Phale told YFM online that despite the office being timely informed about the meeting, the Director General chose not to appear before the committee and never gave an apology.
“We have since sent back the team which came before us because we want to Director General himself, the issue at hand is big and he is better placed to respond,” said Phale.
The committee is inquiring on the quality control of vehicle number plates after it was discovered that only one supplier is the one monopolizing the business.
According to Phale, the meeting will be rescheduled and this time around, it will be in form of a public inquiry where all the concerned players will be involved.
