The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has expressed optimism on getting more tax payers to use the Electronic payment(epayments) system.
Electronic Payments, (ePayments), is the process of paying taxes online with immediate update of your tax account through the Authorized Dealer Banks.
Head of corporate affairs at MRA, Steve Kapoloma told YFM online that since the system was launched in June last year,a lot of people have been using the convenient system to pay their levies.
“We have gotten an overwhelming response from people since we launched the epayments system people are now preferring to remit their taxes online as opposed to coming to our offices”,he said.
Kapoloma also mentioned that MRA will continue to conduct sensitisation campaigns so as to make people aware of the system.
“Some people are not yet conversant with the system so we would like to reach out to them as well and we will keep going into districts to introduce it to them.We are also aware that some have been facing challenges when using the system”.
So far, MRA has conducted awareness campaigns in the country’s major cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
