Police in Lilongwe have arrested 14 suspected notorious criminals in connection with a spate of rape and armed robberies.

Lilongwe police spokesperson, Hastings Chigalu, said the suspects, who are all ex-convicts, allegedly invaded lodges and houses where cash and various items all valued at K120 million were stolen.

“They attacked, hacked security guards, lodge customers and in other circumstances raping female victims before robbing them of their valuable items and cash,” Chigalu said.

Police have also recovered various items including a pistol.
