Govt commits to improving teachers’ welfare

Government has reaffirmed its commitment to evaluating teachers’ voices in policymaking and education reform, and to improving their working conditions.

Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa-Wirima, said this in a statement released on Thursday as the country celebrates World Teachers Day on October 25.

She said: “Government recognizes the importance of teacher’s contributions to building a knowledge-based economy and developing essential human capital for sustainable national development and growth”.

She further said, as the backbone of Malawi’s education system, teachers empower the nation’s future leaders and drive progress in the fulfilment of our National Education Sector Investment Plan (NESIP, 2020-2030) and Malawi 2063 vision.

The day is being commemorated under the theme: “Valuing Teachers’ Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education”.
