A 27 year old man, Patrick Mwapanya, is in police custody at Kanengo Police Station in Lilongwe for leaking nude photos of his 18 year old girlfriend through WhatsApp.

Kanengo Police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Labani Makalani said the suspect who works as a Veterinary Assistant Officer under the Ministry of Health, took the nude pictures on January 22 at his house.

“I can confirm that the victim (particulars withheld) went to the house of the suspect in Area 25 sector 6 where she stayed until 1900hrs. Whilst the two were together the man took nude pictures of the victim in secret using his mobile phone,” he said.

Sub Inspector Makalani further said the victim discovered about the incident on January 25, 2018 after realizing that her nude pictures had gone viral on social media.

Following the development, the woman reported the matter to Kanengo Police who later arrested the man on Friday.

Mwapanya was charged with the offence of insulting the modesty of a woman, a charge which he has pleaded guilty.

Meanwhile, Makalani the has advised the general public to use the social media responsibly to avoid infringing the rights of other people just like the culprit has done.

Mwapanya hails from Chabe village in Traditional Authority Kaduya in Phalombe district.
