Farmers Union of Malawi (FUM) has asked government to speed up the compensation process to all the farmers who have lost their crops to Fall Army worms.
The call comes amid government’s assurance to compensate them.
FUM’s President, Alfred Kapichira Banda said government should speed up the process so that farmers can find alternative crops to plant.
“It is a very welcomed idea that government wants to compensate farmers who have been affected by the Fall Army worms but our plea to them is that they should do this as soon as possible.
Banda said the move can allow farmers to find crops that will survive with the remaining period like cassava and sweet potatoes.
Banda asked government to work hand in hand with the union as they are in a better position to know which farmers are supposed to benefit from the initiative.
