Eleven new cholera cases have been registered in Nsanje, Chikwawa and Mulanje, a Ministry of Health official has confirmed the news to YFM online.

Spokesperson in the Ministry, Joshua Malango said six cases have been registered in Nsanje, one in Chikwawa and four in Mulanje.

Malawi has been struggling to contain the cholera outbreak in some parts of the central and northern regions.

Four deaths have been recorded in Lilongwe and Karonga districts since the outbreak on November 24, 2017.

Malango said apart from the four cases that were reported on Wednesday in Nsanje, the rest were treated at the hospitals and the victims are currently back in their communities.

He said experts are on the ground to establish root cause of the outbreak.

“Hygienic challenges as the probable cause of the outbreak but I cannot pre-empty what has caused the outbreak since health experts are on the ground,” he said.

He therefore advised people from the areas affected and the whole country at large to prioritize hygienic measures in order to contain the outbreak.
