Eye of the child, a child rights non-governmental organization is about to embark on a project that seeks to enhance awareness on Trafficking in Persons Act.
The law which seeks to help fight human trafficking was passed in Parliament in 2015.
Executive Director of Eye of the Child, Maxwell Matewere, said in an interview that the awareness project will be implemented in collaboration with Germany based organizations.
“Eye of the Child is stepping its game by providing more awareness on the piece of legislation among people who are in transit.
“The project has come after observing that not many Malawians are not aware of the Act since it was passed,” he said
The project will kick start in Lilongwe on April 1 this year because, according to Matewere, Lilongwe is taken as the main hub for people who are in transit.
UNICEF estimates that 2.5 million People are trapped in modern day slavery globally and it stresses that men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers both in their own country and abroad.
