Graft bursting body, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has expressed optimism that Malawi will end corruption by 2030.
ACB Senior Public Relations Officer, Egrita Ndala, said the bureau is banking hope on the new National Youth Forum, an initiative focusing on anti-corruption drive through youth’s participation and discussions.
“ACB has come up with the idea upon realizing that youth in Malawi are in high numbers therefore we saw a need to develop them into citizens that will not tolerate corruption,” she said.
Ndala added that the forum uses sports activities as attraction tool for the youth and host corruption presentations at the end of the day.
“We go there with sports competitions, the purpose is to engage them and at the end of competition we have talks encouraging them to be people of honesty and integrity thereby making them better citizens.”
She further added: “come 5 to 10 years these youth will be elder people that will occupy various positions in both public and private sectors therefore they will carry out their activities without corruption.”
The Anti-Corruption Bureau is implementing the National Youth Forum in all the districts across Malawi with the aim of giving youth the platform to discuss anti-corruption issues affecting the nation.
