CBO Coalition on Human Rights and Good Governance says it is concerned with the behavior of some aspiring candidates in the May 2019 elections who continue giving handouts to voters.
Chairperson for the grouping, Ernest Wyson raised the concern during an interview with Yoneco online.
Wyson observed that some aspiring candidates continue giving voters hand-outs in form of cash and other items in order to lure them.
This is against a law that prohibits parties from giving handouts during campaign rallies.
“We are not happy with the tendency of giving handouts to voters as one way of coaxing them to vote for them in next year’s elections,” Wyson said.
In a bid to stop the malpractice, Wyson said his organisation will partner with a graft bursting body, Anti-Corruption Bureau-ACB in sensitizing aspiring candidates on the same.
“We are working with CBO’s and community members in sensitizing the masses on the dangers of receiving handouts. We will also partner with ACB in the campaign against the vice,” added Wyson.
