Veteran music icon Rev. Dr. Chimwemwe Mhango has advised youth in the country to formulate music that convey messages of special interest as one way of improving this country’s entertainment industry.

Mhango who is also President for Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM) has made the sentiments following the arrest of a local artist known as Mesho for composing, producing and sharing a song that is believed to cause breach of peace as it insults Seveth Day Church and Islams.

He said that Malawian youth should comprehend the fact that music is art that respects each and every individual.

“It is the fundamental right of any Malawian to belong to any Religion group of choice and we respect each other for that, it is not right for someone to just work up and write something that will cite violence,” he told YFM online said.

Mhango further said: “Musicians are there to guide people to live in better in societies and producing songs of insults will never make our societies a better place.”

“It is a very regrettable kind of development as in what kind of information does this song convey? Because Malawi respect all religious groups as we have freedom of worship in the country, weather Muslims or Christian they are Malawians.

Mhango further expressed the need to respect this country’s music legends saying they have contributed a lot to Malawian entertainment industry to be where it is now.

According to Mesho, the song which is called ‘Mizikiti’ describes Islam and Seventh Day Church as barriers for people to eat pork and other food stuffs hence calling for the immediate abolishment of the two beliefs.

The 29-years old Mesho real name Anderson Alfred Chipwaila hails from Binali village in traditional authority Nkanda in Mulanje.
