In the next 24 hours, Malawi will be commemorating the 2017 World Tourism Day with Zomba City acting host to the national event.
The commemoration, which falls on 27Th September every year, will be graced by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Henry Mussa.
In his remarks, the District Commissioner for Zomba city, Emmanuel Bambe, commended the government for considering the old capital city to host the world tourism day celebrations.
“Zomba has got a lot of structures that are significant in terms of tourism and also a good number of scenic beauty places like the Chingwe Hall, Emperors View, Queens View and others so it is an honour to us,” Bambe said.
He said Zomba is one of the districts which are facing environmental degradation.
“A good portion of the plateau that had plantation has been degraded or in terms of trees have been wantonly cut down,” he said.
Bambe said the event will help to create a platform to lobby with people to conserve the degrading environment.
