Zomba District council has warned that it will take to task all Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) that are operating in the health sector without the council’s approval.
This was said on Thursday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between council officials and the civil society network operating in the district on project implementation guidelines.
The council’s chairperson, Evance Namakoka told YFM that the district has noted with concern an increasing number of NGOs that are implementing their health centered projects without the council’s endorsement.
Namakoka said the impact of such act is disastrous as it may lead to provision of poor and uncertified services to the people.
“This memorandum of understanding will the help us to follow projects being done in the district and also will help the CSOs themselves not to contradict each other in their work,” said Namakoka.
“Those CSOs which do operate their health projects here illegally its better to chase them away.”
Speaking on behalf of the CSOs – Zomba CSO Network chairperson, Newton Sande Sindo said all the concerns raised by the council are agreeable.
He said that all organisation in the health sector or other sectors have to abide by the council project implementation guidelines to ensure quality and trusted service provision.
Over twenty non-governmental organizations operating in Zomba district including Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO) signed the memorandum of understanding with the Zomba District Council.
