A move by the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE Trust) to use the inclusive civic education approach to spread election messages for the May 21, 2019 polls to people with disabilities has excited the Federation for Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA).
FEDOMA program manager, Symon Munde said the move will assist people with disabilities to make an informed decision on the type of a leader they want.
Munde also commended NICE for recognizing the importance of including persons with disabilities in crucial activities such as elections.
“This is the move in the right direction, you know NICE right from the beginning has been taking inclusive approaches whenever they are doing civic education activities,” he said.
Munde said it is impressive to note that persons with disabilities are now represented in the district advisory forums.
“We are hoping that with such kind of inclusive approaches people with disabilities will be able to understand various issues that are to do with elections and be able to vote from a very informed point of view,” he said.
