Draw for the 2019 Airtel top 8 trophy is set to be conducted on Thursday morning at Mpira house in Blantyre.
Confirming the development to YFM sports desk, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) competitions manager, Gomezgani Zakazaka, said all the 8 participating teams are expected to be present at the ceremony.
Teams expected to compete for this year’s Airtel money are those who finished in the top 8 of the 2018 TNM super league trophy.
Zakazaka said: “Everything is in place and all the 8 teams have been communicated about the event and we expect them to be present at the event together with the sponsors.”
He further confirmed that the current TNM super league holders, Nyasa Big Bullets, will not take part in this year’s competition which is expected to kick off on 13 April and has been replaced by TN Stars which finished on position 9.
Bullets are exempted from taking part in the competition following a punishment they were slapped by FAM after being found on the wrong side of the law for causing chaos during the 2018 Airtel trophy final match against Blue Eagles Football Club.
Teams to compete for this year’s Airtel money are Be forward Wanderers, Silver Strikers, Masters Security, Civil Sporting, Kamuzu Barracks, Karonga United, Mzuni and TN Stars.
Blue Eagles FC, who won the trophy in 2018 have no chance to defend the trophy because of their unimpressive performance in the previous super league season which they finished on position 11.
