Former Malawi Young Pioneers (MYP) officers have threatened to shift their vigil to state residences in Lilongwe over government’s delay to pay their terminal benefits.
Recently, Malawi government through the Treasury, announced that it has produced a list of the ex-MYP officials who are expected to receive the gratuities.
Chairperson for the grouping, Franco Chilemba, told YFM online that despite the announcement, the grouping is ignorant about the list.
Chilemba added that they received an assurance from senior ministry of Finance officials at a meeting on Wednesday on the existence of the approved list.
“We are here at Capital Hill to know the names but we have just been told that the contact person, is out of office,” he said.
Chilemba said if government fails to reveal the names of the approved officials, they will proceed with the vigil to Lilongwe State House .
Treasury Spokesperson, Alfred Kutengule, was not available for comment.
