The Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare has said raising awareness on child protection laws is crucial in promoting child rights in the country.
This follows growing cases of child abuse and trafficking in some areas in the country.
Director of Child Affairs McKnight Kalanda attributed the problem to ignorance on child protection laws thereby affecting implementation.
“Much as the government is doing its part to promote child education, child rights violations are still rampant because many people do not know the laws,” he explained.
Child related laws in Malawi include; the Malawi Constitution, Child Care, Protection and Justice Act and the Marriage, Divorce and Family Relations Act (Marriage Act) of 2015.
