Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) has applauded government for addressing several issues affecting teachers’ welfare in the country.
TUM Secretary General, Charles Kumchenga said they are happy with the response from government towards improving teachers’ working conditions.
He cited the deployment of the IPTE 9 and ODL 4 teachers, payment of outstanding leave grants and teachers’ promotions as landmarks his union can appreciate.
Kumchenga, however, said some challenges still remain.
“Much as we acknowledge the efforts it remains unpleasing to see that up to now government is failing to settle the outstanding arrears to some teachers,” bemoaned Kumchenga.
