The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has called on Malawians to desist from shielding people who are involved in the sale of expired products.
The appeal follows the bureau’s seizure of over 50 tonnes of expired fertilizer from Rab Processors Limited in Blantyre.
The fertilizer, suspected to have expired last year, was being repackaged at one of the company’s warehouses in Limbe.
MBS Director General, Davlin Chokazinga said consumption of expired products is harmful to human health and to the country’s economy.
Chokazinga called upon Malawians must take a lead in the fight against the selling or possession of expired products.
“We would like to request Malawians to inform the Bureau if somebody is doing some illegal activities of this nature to bypass standards,” he told YFM online.
“People should report to us because you protect your country in doing that.”
