Malawi Economic and Justice Network (MEJN) has asked government to seriously look into the enforcement of the Road Access Fee (RAF) if the country is to benefit from the initiative.
RAF is a Road User Charge (RUC) which shall be collected by Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) on behalf of the Roads Fund Administration effective 1st November 2017.
The fee is applicable on all foreign registered small vehicles such as saloon, pick-ups, wagons, motor cycles and trailers.
MEJN Executive Director, Dalitso Kubalasa told YFM online that there is need for the establishment of policies to enhance its enforcement.
“This initiative will help to develop the country in various ways including maintenance of roads and enhancing economic stability but we need to strategies as a country,” he explained.
Kubalasa said the initiative will help to control vehicle movement on roads which will therefore control and reduce road accidents.
