Zomba District Council has unveiled plans to review its by-laws in order to contain the rampant child marriages and environmental degradation in the district.
Zomba District Commissioner, Emmanuel Bambe, said the current by–laws are too loose now that they cannot contain the malpractices.
“The laws that we are operating on now were made some time back depending on the situation back then but now things have changed. The by-laws are no longer relevant to the current situation,” he said.
Bambe said reviewing the by-laws is necessary because it will strengthen the charges and penalties of various crimes.
He said this can also bring sanity in the communities and enable the council to carry out its operations smoothly.
