The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism has expressed concern over the increased infrastructure decay in the country’s tourism industry.
The Director of Administration and Finance in the ministry Dr. Joseph Mkandawire said most historic tourist attractions in the country are degenerating.
“Some attractive places like Chingwe Hall in Zomba have gone down but in the previous years you could see that many people used to visit these places,” he said.
Mkandawire said the ministry is working together with city councils in order to put up a road map which will assist in addressing the challenges.
“Now we want to see how best we can revamp these tourist attractions,” he said.
“Lucky enough this time around, the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MDGS) has recognized tourism.”
Mkandawire called on the public to conserve the available natural resources in an effort to promote the country’s tourism sector.
He disclosed this in Zomba on Wednesday during World Tourism Day commemorations.
